Orientation: before seeing a patient, the caregiver should perform a comprehensive review of the patient"s medical records. Establish treatment goals and functional outcomes with patient input. Encourage patients to ask questions to enable consent. Request patient signature for informed consent forms: red warning flags during evaluation/treatment indicate that the patient should be referred to a physician immediately.
