Socialization the lifelong process of learning the norms, values, behavior, and social skills appropriate to your social position, such as your age, gender, or social class. Social reproduction the process whereby societies have structural continuity over time. Socialization is a key mechanism contributing to social reproduction. All societies have characteristics that endure over time, even though their members change as individuals are born and die. Agents of socialization groups or social contexts within which processes of socialization take place. Occurs later in the childhood and in maturity. Other agents of socialization: schools, peer groups, organizations, the media, and the workplace. In modern families, most early socialization occurs in small-scale family context. Major source of socialization from infancy to adolescence and beyond. Families have varying locations within the overall institutions of a society. In modern societies, social position is not inherited at birth; the region and social class of the family do have a distant e ect on patterns of socialization.
