Semantics: includes the words we choose to describe people and situations. The media has options to how it can portray events or people. Media bias: choice of words and portrayal of news; part of a marketing strategy to portray the news with a given bias. We react more powerfully and more-strongly believe in negative information. Negativity bias: the obsession with bad news humans have. We prefer drama when we search for information. We focus not on what is happening right now but what could happen in the future. Threat assessment: an assessment of a prospective threat that involves probability and impact. Probability: the likelihood that an event will occur. Impact: the result if the event did occur.
