Poverty as the involuntary lack of enough resources to provide or exchange for basic necessities. Significant number live in latin american and caribbean countries. 3/4 of the people in several sub-saharan africa counties and haiti are poor. Even us, some european countries and australia have large blocks of poor people. Women and girl suffer from poverty more than men and boys. In us poverty defined as income less than three times the value of a thrifty food plan. Devised by the us department of agriculture and adjusted for family size ,250 for a family of four in 2015. Introduced by us bureau of the census in 2011. It added cash income and federal cash or in-kind benefits families can use to meet basic needs, aka food stamps and tax credits. It lowers it for families with children but raises it for elderly who have more medical expenses.
