The framework of women empowerment can put another categorization on gender. Critiques of the mdgs from a gender perspective: Limits of instrumental rationale -> women and girls still must remain within projects and proposed frameworks, doesn"t include mechanisms for government doesn"t address underlying structural issues driving discrimination and inequality. Gender is a specific area of focus and also interlinked with others such as employment, poverty eradication, education, water, food security, health, etc. (398) Gender should not be relegated to a descriptive home (i. e. considering gender to only mean girls/women) as this approach seeks to take power dynamic out of the equation (399). Problem of seeing women as good investment for development because of the stereotypical, inherent qualities; heroines/victims binary.
