NURS 4312 Chapter Notes - Chapter 22: Tooth Pathology, Pediatrics, Pesticide Poisoning
Document Summary
Access is a major problem both to rural areas and urban cities. Rural area: the distance people may go to find health care services and providers. Migrant worker: language barrier and cultural differences. Rural: is defined generally either in terms of geographic location and population density or the distance from (e. g. , 20 miles) or the time needed (e. g. , 30 min) to commute to an urban center. Some consider rural as a state of mind . Some see it as recreational, retirement, or resort community located in the mountains or lake country where people can participate in outdoor activities. On the opposite end people think rural as: poor and/or crowded housing with lack of adequate facilities for water and sewage. Depending on the region, generally there are more whites in rural than urban areas. Regionally, rural counties have a large minority population. Demographically rural communities have a higher proportion of residents under 18 years of age and over 65 y/o.
