America"s population encompasses 150 different ethnic or racial groups. By 2025, only 58% of america"s population is predicted to be white. America"s ratios of people who count themselves as more than one race is also expected to double in size. 10-2b ethnicity: ethnic group- a group of people who identify with a common national origin or cultural heritage that includes language, geographic roots, food, customs, traditions, and/or religion. 10-2c racial-ethnic group: racial-ethnic group- people who have distinct cultural and physical characteristics, five major racial/ethnic groups, african-americans, asian-americans, hispanic-americans, native americans, non-hispanic americans, racial profiling- people interact differently with people depending on their appearance. 10% are refugees: california, texas, new mexico, hawaii, and washington, dc have populations that the majority is not white.
