Subsistence strategies: foraging, hunting and gathering, pastoralism, grazing animals, horticulture, gardening, agriculture, planting on a larger scale. Involves production of goods and services, rather than food: many groups have mixed strategies. Foragers: all humans up to 10,000 years ago, humans have been foragers for most of our existence, we are built to be foragers, nomadic, have a hand-to-mouth existence. Have to travel from water source to water source. They use the time for socializing, sharing their knowledge. Invention of domestication- plants: horticulture and pastoral rely on domestication of plants, domestication- human control of reproduction of plants and animals.
