Document Summary

Pollen can be an agent on gene flow. Criteria for a non-evolving population: no mutations, no gene flow, population must be large, random mating, natural selection cannot occur (any one of these can cause evolution) Gene pool: all the genes in a population. Population genetics: frequency, distribution, and inheritance of alleles in a population. Allele frequency = # of a specific allele trait. Casual observer: looking at the features (something you can see with your eyes) If allele frequency change = evolution (that population will evolve) Hardy- weinberg principle: a mathematical model that examines an ideal population (one that is not evolving at all) Mutations can be beneficial, harmful or neutral. Gene flow: movement of alleles from one population to another. Genetic drift: (population size can influence it) (n allele has been lost) Mutations have to occur in the gametes in order to be passed down to the next generation. Environment can cause mutations or mutation can be spontaneous.
