Cell identification: membrane proteins provide a fingerprint for the cell type. Called cd receptors (cluster of differentiation: hiv binds to cell receptors that are rpesent on cells inside the body, but not present on skin cells. If someone rejects an organ it means the pattern of proteins on the dontated organ.
