Document Summary

Digestion, if required - processing and getting into a usable form. Nutrition in all organisms involves four main steps: once it gets where it belongs, make the molecules for the organisms to live. Animal cells require a continuous supply of energy. One of the main functions of nutrition in animals is to act as an energy source. Animals require energy (different from plants), must take in energy when taking in nutrition. We didn"t see this aspect when we talked about nutrition in plants because they rely on photosynthesis for their energy needs. This difference is seen in the starting material. Required to break large molecules down to building blocks. But get some of this by eating some of those big things, thus why have the pathways to build them. The large organic molecules that animals start their nutrition with are filled with energy: lipids, carbohydrates, proteins, minerals, vitamins.
