Document Summary

Biology 1002: describe sexual vs. asexual reproduction. Asexual- no sperm or egg is involved. duplicated itself, so no genetic variation, no exchange of dna(mitosis, skin generation from meiotic). offspring is genetically identical to parent self. Ex: binary fission(split down the middle), budding(pinching off of itself) Sexual- involve sperm and egg that come from gonads(testes and ovaries). When fuse they form a zygote that is diploid, or 2n. Create genetically different offspring: describe budding, regeneration, and fission, define parthenogenesis. Involves an egg that can develop into a vitable offspring without the presence of a sperm. Ex: honey bees, some fish and amphibians: what is unique about sexual reproduction, what are the male and female gonads, what is a zygote, define the term hermaphrodites. When conditions are not favorable, self-fertilize, but when conditions are favorable, exchange sperm: explain external fertilization. External fertilization- spawning - release egg into the air and sperm.
