BIOL 1002 Chapter : Ch 43 Plant Anatomy
Document Summary
Organisms must: obtain energy, obtain water and other nutrients, distribute water and nutrients, exchange gases, support the body, grow, reproduce. The basic designs of land plants have two parts: shoot system, leaves, photosynthesis, stems, transport water, store food, support weight, photosynthesis, root system, absorb water & nutrients, anker plant, store food. For the angiosperms the two variation of this basic design are seen in two classed: monocots & dicots. Arrange in group of three arranged in groups of four. Plants produce new cells in special regions called meristems. the cells have not become specialized: meristem cells are undifferentiated (totipotent) embryonic cells. This means: once plant cells mature they become differentiated cells and usually don"t divide again. Plant growth is mainly vertical and as a result plants grow longer not wider: this is the result of the location of the meristems.
