Document Summary

Biol 1201, section 4, fall 2012, 3 credit hours. Office: 204 foster hall, phone: 578-2887, e-mail: fsheld@lsu. edu. Office hours: afternoons; call ahead to make sure i"m in the office. 5:00-6:00 pm, thursday, blake (agriculture residential college) seminar room. Course objectives: to provide an introduction to molecular and cellular biology for students planning careers in science, including medicine, teaching, and research. This course includes essentially the same information you received in high school biology, but in greater depth. Please note that the associated laboratory (biol 1208) is a separate course, with different instructors and grading. Teaching philosophy: the best way to learn new information is to expose yourself to it multiple times in different formats. Unfortunately, the size of the class makes it difficult to employ interactive teaching methods. So, primary exposure to the subject will come from reading the text and listening to lectures. But, for many students this will not be enough.
