BIOL 1202 Chapter : Chapter 35 Plant Structures
Document Summary
Emphasizes on seed bearing vascular plants since most species are like that. And we use these plants for food and buildings. Concept 35. 1: the plant body has a hierarchy of organs, tissues, and cells. A plant"s body is organized just like animals. Plants draw nutrients from 2 very different environments: below ground and above ground. 3 basic organs: roots (below, stems (above, leaves (above) Organized into the root and shoot system. An organ that anchors the vascular plant. Absorbs minerals and water: absorption occurs near root tips and transport nutrients up the shoot system, root hairs (long thin filaments) increase the surface area of the root for absorption of water. Stores organic nutrients (from the shoots to the roots) The plant survives over winter from the nutrients in the roots. Nodes- points of which leaves are attached. Axillary buds potential to form lateral shoot (i. e. , branch) Terminal bud- located at shoot tip, causes elongation of a young shoot.
