Document Summary

Polycistronic mrna- a single mrna that has multiple sequences that code for different genes. Operon- dna that codes for polycistronic mrna which codes for proteins that work together (lac operon codes for enzymes that all work together to break down lactose) Operator- this is the section of dna that the repressor binds to in negative control. Regulon- more than one operon under controle of a single regulatory protein. Repressor- a protein in negative control that binds to the operator and stops rna polymerase from transcribing rna. It either has an inducer or a co-repressor binded to it depending on the type of operon. Co-repressor- a molecule that binds to the repressor protein that helps the repressor bind to the operator. Inducer- a molecule that binds to either repressors or activators (depending on if it is negative or positive control) that will allow rna polymerase to transcribe rna.
