Document Summary

All connective tissues consist of:: cells, extracellular matrix ( bers and ground substance)! Cells widely separated with lots of bers and ground substance between them! All connective tissue have similar component and share cell types! Ecm is a complex and intricate structural network that surrounds and supports cells within the connective tissue: produced by ct cells, usually a viscous liquid or gel! Ecm provides: structural support for tissue, barrier to bacteria, shock absorber, pathways for cell migration (e. g. during wound repair)! Collagen and elastic bers in mesentery spread: collagen bers (brown) are much thicker. They do not branch: elastic bers (dark purple). Type iii collagen bers): thin and branched (form a net- like reticulum), framework of the liver, lymphatic tissue, & bone marrow, not seen in routine preps, but become visible with silver stain, made by broblasts! The reticular bers form an irregular anastomosing network! Connective tissue cells: fibroblasts, myo broblasts, macrophage, plasma cells, mast cells, mesenchymal cells, adipocytes!
