Document Summary
For this paper i chose to further explore the concept of self-esteem and what causes the changes in it. The scholarly definition of self-esteem is how one evaluates their self-concept either positively or negatively. When one assesses their self-concept positively it is called high self-esteem. When one assesses their self-concept negatively it is called low self-esteem. My definition of self-esteem is one"s opinion of their own self worth. The following is one example of low self- esteem due to the looking glass self theory. Laura has been cheated on repeatedly by men she has dated in the past; therefore, her self-esteem is very low and her confidence in men is down. She recently met nathan and they began dating. Laura is overbearing and checks nathan"s phone and facebook daily without his approval. Laura and nathan begin fighting a lot because she starts accusing him of cheating and nathan breaks up with her.
