CMST 2010 Chapter : Chapter 2
Document Summary
Communication can be defined in several ways. Everyday use of the term communication suggest that it can be used to describe humans interacting, computers sending signals to other computers, animals utilizing scents and other forms of bodily expressions, etc. Differences between these types of communication is found in the intentionality on the part of the sender and the degree of accuracy of interpretation on the part of the recipient. Misinterpretation: when the person observing you misinterpreted behavior. Accidental communication: when you did not mean to communication, but communication was interpreted correctly. Successful communication: occurs if your intended behavior was interpreted correctly. Attempted communication: if you attempted to communicate but the receiver did not notice the communication. Linear model: earliest model of communication depicted as a linear process whereby info source encodes a message that is transmitted through some channel and decoded as a recipient. Interactional model was developed due to the linear model being inadequate bc it"s too simple.
