CMST 2010 Chapter : CMST 2010
Document Summary
Communication is the collective creation, maintenance, and transformation of meaning and expectations through the sending and using of messages. > collective: at base collective means more than one person must be involved. Something we do with one another not at, with, or to, but with one another. Some sort of engagement by the individuals involved. If not interacting you are not communicating, if you say something at someone or to someone without interaction you are simply receiving or sending messages. We need one another in order to pull off communication, it comes from communicare (latin word): idea of sharing or to make common like a community. But we are not ever implying agreement or success. Not all communications are agreeable, there are arguments and disagreeability. Just because you are collaborating and coordinating something does not mean it is going to be successful.
