Morality and ethics are apart of religions but it"s too broad because not every person who values morality is religious. Belief in a higher power: excludes atheists and agnostics. All religion is about belief but it"s not because it"s also about practice. You can believe in the supernatural things without being religions: ghosts. Some people have religions that worship the earth and not a higher power. Belief in a deity is religion excludes buddhism and jainism. Religions should be protected and cults should not be. Edward burnett tylor maintained that religion developed out of animism. Animism is belief that natural objects (like stones, trees, etc. ) have souls. Sigmund freud believed that religion developed out of a feeling of guilt about a prehistoric murder. According to karl marx, religion functions to suppress the underclass.
