Open system-a system of stratification in which it is possible to move up to a higher or lower position. (must work hard and get lucky=american dream) Inequality-differences btwn groups or individuals in wealth, status, or power. Lenski"s historical view: inequality depends on level of society. Hunting and gathering-all possess little wealth and have similar tasks so inequality very little.
