Document Summary
This article by claire kane miller and paul willging was written to bring attention to the different aspects of pediatric palliative care and the growing need of this type of health care. Every situation and family is different which can make the ultimate decision foggy and unclear. There is often not one clear decision; however the final decision will come from the families and patients. Some people may ask why the patient should be allowed to maintain oral feeding if it risks aspiration, however eating is a social part of life. The main goal of this type of treatment is to enhance the patient"s quality of life and offer some relief to the patient and the family (miller & willging, 2012). Hospice and palliative care organization (nhpco) roughly three hundred thousand patients would benefit from palliative care. Pediatric palliative care has a high unavailability; this needs to change for the future.
