Course description: this course introduces students to the craft and art of screenwriting and by the end of the semester you will complete the first act of a feature length script. Course objectives: understand 3-act, narrative structure, learn how to write cinematically, learn proper screenwriting format, understand the script as a blue print for a film, plan a feature-length screenplay and write the first act of an original screenplay. Required course materials: syd field"s the screenwriter"s workbook, a journal where you will keep your film/script logs and analysis of what you watch/read throughout the semester. You should fill it with anything you find useful to your process and/or to your specific script idea including notes, character sketches, photographs that inspire you, swatches of fabric, anything. Additionally, you must watch one film or read a script each week and respond to it in your journals.
