Also, smaller fish can invade territory of larger more aggressive species of fish and feed there because it is impossible for the owner of the territory to chase away the entire, vast school. The primary function of schooling however, is protection from prey there is safety in numbers. Organisms also enter into relationships with other organisms to remain alive.
