Fish use vertical fins called dorsal and anal fins as stabilizers. The caudal fin is used to propel fast swimming fish and is the tail fin. The advantage of swimming faster is that it makes catching prey or fleeing from hunters easier. During spawning schooling ensures there will be males to release sperm and fertilize eggs released into water by females. Also, smaller fish can invade territory of larger more aggressive species of fish and feed there because it is impossible for the owner of the territory to chase away the entire, vast school. The primary function of schooling however, is protection from prey there is safety in numbers. Organisms also enter into relationships with other organisms to remain alive.
