EXST 2201 Chapter : Welding HW 2 Part 1
Document Summary
Among many of the various types of meat welding processes, three of the more common methods include oxyacetylene gas welding, gas tungsten arc welding (gtaw), and gas metal arc. Each of these methods has its advantages and shortcomings in metal bonding applications. The technique used for the welding application highly depends on several key factors including but not limited to: bond strength, residual stresses due to welding, type of bond, and in- service use of material after the weld. With this being said, the most sufficient method must be chosen to minimize failure of the bond especially for critical structural or mechanical components. Oxyacetylene gas welding uses a torch along with gas flow regulators to mix the oxygen and. Acetylene gas creating a flame at approximately 6,330 f (3,500 c). The flame is used to melt the work pieces creating a shared pool of molten metal [1].
