Environmental issues today: extinction of native species of plants and animals, destruction of environments, poor land/ agricultural practices, warfare that creates chaos in rural areas so that the areas decline, desertification. Most fragile is the sahel region and the most endanger of the process of. Many fragile landscapes in africa desertification (the process of desert moving/ expanding to an area that was not desert before). Can be caused by climatological effects i. e. less rain, higher temperatures. These effects last for decades/ centuries, not over a week. Could also be cause by human problems such as misuse of land, population pressure, overgrazing, extension of farmlands into fragile environments. In the sahel all or most of these things are or have taken place. Scientist say that the human activity is speeding up in the area. They are using more cattle instead of sheep. Cattle are bigger and take more space and take away more of the grasslands.
