GEOG 2050 Chapter : Geog 2051 Note Chapter 1
Document Summary
Chapter 1: what is geography, system theory, location, time, maps, remote sensing, geographic information systems. A science that deals with the description, distribution, and interaction of the diverse physical, biological, and cultural features of earth"s surface. Rock cycle, plate tectonics, earth structure, volcanos, earthquakes, ect. Geographers utilize spatial anaylysis tools to bring together topics from many different fields, the ideal is to create an intergrated whole- earth concept. Geopgraphers analyze the differences and smiliarties and sismatries among these 5 satial themes: enviermental systems theory. Most biological systems are open- materials, energy or information is exchanged between parts of system and external sources (the earth is the biggest open system we have) Close systems are self- contained (ex. biosphere 2, a sub ermine) although few remain so indefinitely. A closed system often runs out of resources as there are no exchanges with outside sources. Feedback loops- a circulation process caused when a systems"s output serves as input to tht same system.
