Document Summary

Discharge decreases downstream in an environment because water seeps into the ground and evaporates. Spring = high discharge (high snow melt)/winter = low discharge (water frozen) Stream => flowing water within a channel. Channel => a depression in the ground. Flood => when water exceeds channel capacity. A stream erodes landscapes and carries sediment into lakes and oceans. Discharge => volume of water that passes through the stream. Dissolved load => tons of dissolved minerals. High velocity produces a bigger load: deposition. Water moves down slope due to gravity. Stream empties into a larger body of water. Can move boulders and channel can narrow abruptly. Usually get sediment-choked because they are normally found in mountainous environments (a lot of landslides, less water available) Located at the base of a mountain. Develops because the stream gradient abruptly drops and stream velocity slows. Big clasts at bottom and are smaller as you move up.
