Hera hides herself as an old woman to talk to semele. Hera tells semele that zeus does not appear to her as he really is. Zeus appeared to semele as he appears to all humans as powerful tall and masculine. The next time zeus saw semele she asked him to give her something and he asked for him to appear to her as he really is. He didn"t want to but he gave in.
