776 bc end of the dark ages: social and political structures, strict pyramid aristocracy, commoners, slaves, aristocracy, aristocrats had wealth (based on land they owned) and the right family, ownership of land became hereditary. Loved warfare: they were the only ones who could afford armor, weaponry, and horses, allowed them to flaunt their wealth and hone their leadership skills, developed a code of honor/soldier"s code, very well illustrated in the iliad. Iliad became a teaching tool for mentors to teach young boys proper behavior: hector fighting achilles he knows he"s going to die, but he fights achilles anyway. The archaic period: monarchy in the beginning, monarchy weakens, aristocracy takes over, on the rise at the end of the dark ages, tyrants (tryants?, tyrants were replaced by democracies, rise of the polis. Early political developments: each polis had an assembly of citizens.
