Document Summary

Masses, classes, and sex: 1871-1914 : review from previous chapter. 1871 is when germany unites and 1914 is the start of wwi. The industrial revolution is going on in the background. Creating new classes (the working class is getting larger and larger) The beginning of universal male sufferage (ums): all men can vote regardless of class, granted by conservatives. The isms all change and adjust to changes: the second industrial relolution. Radios, steel, chemicals, telephones, and the mass production of automobiles were being produced. Big corporations called conglomerates take the lead: factories like the steel factory are beyond the care of one person so big businesses take it over. Industry is too big so there is more regulation (which leads to things like can food) Industry accepts it, harder for upstarts to come against you. Department stores appear and consumer good are produced and sold through them. Expansion of the rr and steamships are faster.
