Sparked the interest of eropeans in the world. Crusading spirit was not only against muslims in middle east, but muslims in spain too. Members of warrior classes all around europe came together to conquer spain. Said that the way to get the gold that the myth of pastor john talks about is to sail around the tip of africa. The atlantic ocean was regarded as a very dangerous place. Had to do with wind patterns of the earth. It is easy to sail down the coast of africa, but almost impossible to come back. They would get stranded on the shores of the sahara desert and die. Europeans became aware of the wind patters towards the united states .
