Document Summary

Planters and laborers need each other, theoretically it should work out that the laborers should be able to demand of the land owner"s a fair wage, they should at least command a decent living. In reality though, economic relationships such as sharecropping and renting. Tenant farming, is getting tenants to live and work on your land. The laborer doesn"t get to decide what crop they are growing. The laborer has more control in tenant farming agreement, they choose what to grow. Former slaves can"t enter in rental agreements, cause it meant having money up front to rent the land. They are accumulating debt to land owners and merchants (buying food), because they owe credit/debt, and with their own share they have to also use that. The likelihood you would be able to pay the debt would be less, because you have to carry on to next year to pay previous debt.
