Document Summary

Make sure things got there on time: states didn"t even set time zones much less the federal government, cities towns and villages set their own time zones, 1876 the time zones were made official for the railroad operators. Corporate boards: to get even bigger than they already are corporate boards started to sell stock, they take the money they get and invest it in machinery and pay back with small interest. Entrepreneurs: fairly new immigrants like andrew carnegie, john rockefeller, jp. Morgan, all of this through stock transactions and enormous monopolies on steel and oil etc. Laissez fair: let the economy do what it wants, the government for the most time in history just let the economy alone. Workers were left vulnerable by working in dangerous machines and long hours with no social security or anything to protect them. Few efforts were made before the war but after was when it escalated.
