Document Summary

The new deal: reaction and reform: reaction- teddy was getting more and more resistance to the new deal from the right, but especially from the left. They complained that he did not do enough. These attacks lead to the second new deal: huey long- one of the most outspoken people against teddy; became one of the greatest threats to teddy. If long would run then it would take a lot of the democratic vote, and give the republicans the win. Basically anyone who made more than a million dollars would give up anything made more to the government. He believed that anyone could live on 1 million dollars a year. This way everyone would be given at least an income of 5,000 dollars a year. Even though this didn"t make much feasible sense, it gained support from people that were unemployed: dr. francis townsend, townsend old age pension plan- senior citizens would receive a month.
