PHYS 2108 Chapter : Phys 2018 Lab 9
Document Summary
The purpose of this lab is to observe how increasing the harmonic and tension affect the frequency and wavelength of the string. Differentiation between natural frequency and resonant frequency will be noted, and the mass density of the string will be calculated by using the slope of the wavelength vs. 1/f graph and the mass and length of the string. With the combined mass recorded, frequency of the function generator is to be increased using the lowest amplitude possible, until the string reaches its lowest standing wave pattern. Frequency is then to be adjusted to the second harmonic so it and the wavelength can be recorded. The procedure is repeated and noted with any occurrence of resonance. Next, the procedure is repeated with a greater combined mass. For the calculation, with the length and mass of the string recorded, tension in the string and mass density are calculated.
