Infancy and childhood: infancy and childhood span from birth to teenage years, during these years the individual has rapid growth physically, cognitively and socially, infancy stage: newborn to toddler, childhood stage: toddler to teenager. Cognitive development: jean piaget: children are not like adults but instead think much differently about the world, piaget believed that cognitive development results from individual discovery and a child"s interaction with objects. Piaget"s 4 stages: birth to nearly 2 years (sensorimotor, 2 to about 6 or 7 years, about 7 to 11 years, about 12 through adulthood. Concrete operational stage (7-12 years: becomes capable of concrete logical thought processes but is not yet capable of abstract thinking. 2: conservation possible, capable of decentration and reversibility, can classify/categorize.
