More modern view of short term memory. One view is that it is made up off three storage systems: auditory rehearsal system, visual-spatial scratch pad, episodic buffer. Plus an executive control system called the central executive. Episodic buffer: this component was proposed to account for storage of multi-modal information, other working memory models exist, and not everyone agrees with baddeley. Why do scientists think we might have different. Some believe that because items at the beginning and the end of the list stand out more, these are easier to remember. Others focus on the amount of rehearsal items get, based on the position in the list. Use this information if you have to memorize a list.
