PSYC 2000 Chapter : Psyc Notes Ch 2
Document Summary
Nervous system is composed of a complex network of class throughout the body including neurons (that transmit info) Central nervous system: brain and spinal cord: brain: interprets and stores information and sends orders to muscles, organs, and glands, spinal cord: pathway connecting the brain and the peripheral nervous system. Peripheral nervous system: transmits information to and from the central nervous system. Spinal cord; re ex arc neurons: afferent/sensory: from senses to spinal cord. Interneurons: connect afferent to efferent: efferent/motor: from the spinal cord to muscles. Lobes (four): occipital (90% is vision) back, frontal (thinking, planning, decision making, uent speech) Pre frontal cortex (bodily movement: temporal lobe, parietal lobe. Outermost covering of the brain consisting of densely packed neurons; responsible for higher thought processes and interpretation of sensory input. Allows a much larger area of cortical cells to exist in the small space inside the skull. Responsible for higher (complex) mental processes and decision making.
