Document Summary

Developmental psychology- studies physical, cognitive, social, and moral growth. Continuity vs stages (is our development smooth or bouncy) Takes places two to three days after the fact. Men produce much more sperm than women do eggs. The zygotic stage lasts the first two weeks after conception. Travels down the tubes, into the uterus and plants itself in the uterus walls. Embryonic stage- runs from after the first two weeks to the end of the first trimester. Mom has to be careful of what they ingest. Fetal stage- last six months of pregnancy. Bones will begin to harden, muscle tissue, baby will dream in last trimester. Teratogens- toxins that can affect the development of the baby (alcohol, nicotine, mercury, etc) The most premature newborn ever documented is 22 weeks. If the lungs are formed then the child can survive. The closer to the due date the more uncomfortable they get and you get as well.
