People try to define your intelligence by academic success. Intelligence- the ability to learn from experience, solve problems, use knowledge to adapt to new situations. Intelligence test- an assessment of an individual"s mental aptitudes. Spearman believed we had general intelligence (underlies specific mental abilities and therefore measured by every task in an intelligence. Factor analysis- a statistical procedure that identifies clusters of related items. Gardner- came up with the savant syndrome (someone who is severely lacking in the majority of intelligence areas, but there is one area that they are really good at). 1- analytical (academic problem solving) intelligence (not good because life doesn"t have just one answer) 2- creative intelligence (responding to things and coming up with a unique solution of the unique situation) 3- practical intelligence (everyday acts which may be ill defined and multiple solutions) Perceive emotions- recognize emotions in faces, music, and stories. Understand emotions- to predict them and how they change and blend.
