PSYC 2000 Chapter Notes -Deindividuation, Behavioural Genetics
Document Summary
Attribution theory- you credit behavior in a situation to either someone"s disposition/personality or the influence of the environment/situation. Fundamental attribution error- people grossly underestimate the effect the environment has (ex: people cheat even though we are taught not to). (ex: extroverted and introverted people). If you fail to understand the effects of the environment, you will be wrong in your behavior. Attitudes- feelings that are influenced by your beliefs, they predispose us to respond in a particular way to objects, people, or events. Central route persuasion- you actually listen to the argument, presentation, etc, for the ideas it has and what it says. Peripheral route persuasion- little insignificant cues (ex: attractiveness) is what you pay attention to (ex: ryan gosling says homily at school and we pay attention to him). Foot in the door phenomenon- if you want people to do stuff for you, you warm them up a little bit.
