Document Summary

Powerfully predicts liking: we have an innate need to belong. It is a motivation to bond with others in relationships that provide ongoing and positive interactions: can lead to happiness, feeling capable, and feeling more free, when we do not have this connection, we feel actual pain. The tendency for novel stimuli to be liked more or rated more positively after the rater has been repeatedly exposed to them. We like things that we have been exposed to over and over again: ex: your favorite letter of the alphabet is probably the letter that your name begins with. Exposure without awareness leads to liking: even if you don"t like something to begin with. We tend to date people who we find attractive. Ex: if a candidate looks confident then they are more likely to get more votes. Men are more likely to vote for a physically attractive female candidate. Women are more likely to vote for an approachable looking female.
