The id is driven by the pleasure principle the goal is to maximize satisfaction and reduce tension. Ego the part of the personality that is rational and reasonable. The ego operates based on the reality principle instinctual energy is restrained to maintain the safety of the individual and help integrate the person to society. Superego represents a person"s conscience, incorporating distinctions between right and wrong.
