Psychoanalytic theory - define- freud; suggests that unconscious forces act to determine personality and behavior. Unconscious define- part of personality in which the person is unaware of. Three aspects of personality presented at birth; only part of personality you"re born with. Id - define- raw, inborn, unorganized part of personality that is. The id is driven by the pleasure principle - define-the goal is to maximize satisfaction and reduce tension. Ego - define- rational and reasonable part of personality. The ego operates based on the reality principle define-instinctual energy is restrained to maintain the safety of the individual and help interrogate the person into society between right and wrong. The superego acts to perfect and civilize our behavior.
