PSYC 3020 Chapter : Ch 9
Document Summary
Chapter 9 evidence of validity based on a test"s relationships with constructs (construct validity: construct validity: evidence that a test relates to other tests and behaviors as predicted by a theory. *** shouldn"t be correlated to gender or age, but should be correlated with the other. 2 scales: what is a construct, construct: an attribute, trait, or characteristic that is abstracted from observable behaviors, construct example: self-efficacy, construct explication: steps for defining or explaining a psycholgoical construct, gathering evidence of construct validity, theoretical evidence. Establish nomological network: nomological network: method for defining construct by illustrating its relation to as many other constructs and behaviors as possible. Propose experimental hypotheses ( self efficacy should have strong + correlation with self esteem but not so high it measures the same thing": psychometric evidence. Evidence based on relationships with external criteria: gathering evidence: reliability. A test must be reliable in order to be valid. Square root or reliability sets upper limit of validity.
