PSYC 4070 Chapter : Chapter 5
Document Summary
Differs from older individuals we typically learn by having facts communicated to us. We build upon experiences and integrate them and act accordingly. Object permanence: understand that even when objects are hidden, they are still present didn"t magically disappear. Children need experience with these kinds of situations in order to learn object permanence. They learn through direct motor behavior and senses. Ex: infants learn by doing they touch, taste, smell, etc. Piaget"s theory: says children pass through a series of universal stages. Stages are: sensorimotor, preoperational, concrete, operational, and formal operational. Fixed order through stages can"t skip any and needs to go in a certain order. Both physical maturation and relevant experiences allow movement between stages. Physical maturation you have to move and explore in order to learn. With development infants experience changes in understanding about what can/can"t occur in world.
