RNR 1001 Chapter : 8 30
Document Summary
Quality- we have it, but it"s so degraded that it"s not useful or can"t be used. Productivity- using resources faster than it can be produced. Absolute resource scarcity- the resource is going to eventually run out. Efficiency (not efficient unless it is needed), recycling, alternative. Relative resource scarcity- enough on earth but the distribution is wrong. Have enough food on the earth, but people are dying of starvation. Rapidly changing conditions in the west over next hundred years. Mining things ? affect water with a lot of iron. Fertilizer degrades water because the water takes it away and goes into the river. Water coming out of nuclear plants kills organisms because of the heat (120 degrees). As long as we take out what"s being put in, it"s fine. If you take out more, you can destroy the stream. Population growth: time to add billion people is taking less time.
