RNR 2031 Chapter : Hames
Document Summary
This article takes place in n. america around the 1600"s and proposes controversial evidence to the idea that native americans were not conservationists by moral or inherent behavior. It attempts to explain how native americans were conservationist as a result of low populations, lack of technology, and lack market and demand to promote over exploitation. Americans were not conservationists, meaning they made no systematic effort in the conservation of game species and eliminated much of those species that they depend on, they were however ecologists. This means that they understood complex environmental interactions. The difference between overkill (morally wrong decision to kill more than one can use) and over harvesting (an unintelligent or ignorant decision to kill leading to nonsustainability) was addressed and eluded that native americans overharvested at times.
